During Your Stay

Preparing for surgery can feel overwhelming or scary if you don’t know what to expect. You may have some unanswered questions and worries that make you feel this way. Knowing what to expect will help you feel less nervous and more in control.

Check-In

When you arrive at our center we ask that you check-in at the registration desk to verify personal, support person’s name and phone number and insurance information.

Following Admission

After checking in at our center, you will be brought to the pre-op area where the nurse will do a health interview and prepare you for surgery. You will stay in pre/post operative area until it is time for your surgery. An anesthesiologist will discuss your anesthesia with you and answer any questions. At the appropriate time you will be escorted to the operating room. During surgery your surgeon, anesthetist and staff will be with you and inform you of the whole process.   When the surgery is finished, you will return to the pre/post recovery area.

Patient Safety in Ambulatory Surgery Centers

Patient safety is of the utmost priority to our center’s physicians and staff. Our governing board provides oversight for the quality of care. We are undergoing voluntary accreditation by the Ambulatory Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAASF), an American national organization that accredits a wide variety of ambulatory health care settings. AAAASF currently accredits more than 6,000 organizations.

We deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in an outpatient setting which provides comfort and ease of access. While hospitals provide a wide range of support services 24 hours a day, we are designed to focus on the patient’s specific procedure or surgery experience and preparation for recovery at home.

Based upon your medical history and health assessment, and the procedure to be performed, your physician will select the best care setting for your specific healthcare needs. In some cases, it may be determined that the hospital is the best setting for your planned procedure.

Complications can occur in any healthcare setting where surgery is performed, and we are well-equipped to respond accordingly. We have established best practices and safety standards while also meeting or exceeding regulatory and accreditation requirements.

In very rare instances when a patient requires emergency care while at the center, we have extensive procedures in place to respond. We have physicians, registered nurses, anesthesia providers and those trained in CPR and the use of emergency equipment in the facility to respond as needed. We are also fully equipped with appropriate equipment to respond to emergencies, and if necessary, we can transfer patients to the nearby hospital for additional care. This Facility will honor the intent of the advance directive to the extent permitted by law, and subject to the limitations on the basis of conscience. This Facility performs elective procedures that generally enhance or improve the patient’s quality of life, therefore; in the event of a medical emergency, it is the policy of this Facility to initiate resuscitative measures and transfer the patient to the hospital for further evaluation.

In order to continue to improve the patient experience and as part of our commitment to providing an uninterrupted continuum of care, our staff at BOSC utilize messaging to keep you and your family connected to your . Your surgeon may ask you to participate based on the specific surgery you are having.

This texting tool allows our surgeons to stay connected to their patients throughout postoperative care to monitor outcomes in between follow-up visits.  This allows our staff to keep in contact with the patient preoperatively and this allows us to keep your family and support aware of instructions and when the surgery starts and ends.  We believe communication improves outcomes.
